Ed Miliband nose operation fails to help most
Ed Miliband, the Labour leader has had nasal surgery after being diagnosed with sleep apnoea - a condition that causes restless nights and excessive snoring. The procedure is expected to cost taxpayers £1,300.
But it might not be such good news for Miliband. New research from the British Snoring & Sleep Apnoea Association shows that 80% of those who have had surgery to stop snoring said that it did not work for them.
For 14%, it initally stopped the snoring but started again within 6 months for 50% of these.75% of snorers who had surgery have now stopped snoring through other means. From this survey CPAP appears to be the most common effective treatment. CPAP is the 'gold standard' treatment for sleep apnoea but many snorers use it also.
