Stop Snoring And Improve Your Sexual Health (BSSAA, August 2005)

Snoring and sleep apnoea causes blood pressure to rise above normal levels which puts a strain on the heart and vascular system. High blood pressure increases the risk of heart attack and stroke and can also suppress a healthy interest in sex. Daytime sleepiness and excessive fatigue caused by snoring also contribute to loss of libido. It seems that increasing age, weight and respiratory disturbances caused by snoring are certain to put the damper on any snorer's love life.

While singing exercises (report, June 30) may reduce snoring and help to treat obstructive sleep apnoea, current evidence shows that the most effective treatment is continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP).
