Modafinil I think it is slightly different than the amphetamine range of drugs, it is comonly used for narcoplexy, with a primary aim of keeping people alert, if my memory serves me correct it was first used and tested by the american military during 1 st Gulf war, and at one stage linked to the gulf war sydrome.
It has been used with Alzeimers disease, but not sure if it is licenced for that purpoase. Side effects are not a wise thought, with close links to suicide and psychosis, just for starters, although they are not supposed to be as irritatant as the amphetamine based drugs, I also believe they are schedule 4 drugs, which suggests only available by prescription, so if not by prescription be aware of the many illegal ones that comonly rise from Canada and US, and no exact knowledge of ingrediants.

Quote: Ellie, modafinil is nothing like amphetamines. Maybe to someone who doesn't have any CNS problems related to having sleep disorders would find modafinil amphetamine like.
But modafinil is a stimulating substance, which helps to keep you awake in the daytime. As far as I was aware, it was an amphetamine or amphetamine derivative, and was on a list of controlled substances ...... but I await correction from those who have more pharmaceutical knowledge than I do ......................

I believe the stomach issue will relieve, some , hopefully all my sleep problems. Just this week I was at the hospital. I'm on a baby food diet, because it's all my body can stomach at the moment. I decided to branch out a bit at the weekend and opted for a kids sized portion of pizza and chips.....I suffered knife like pains until 5am, woke up still belching throughout the day...all from a pizza and chips on Friday 6pm.
The doctor thinks it's gallstones or hiatus hernia. He's took blood samples and i'm waiting for an appointment for an ultrasound.
I've suffered stomach problems for years. Currently on lansoprazole ( apparantly stronger and better states the doctor )...but found the Omezaprole works better for me.

I would suggst that the Modivil is what made you feel better, not the diet. This is amphetimine based and found in many diet pills, so that may be contributing towards the diet effects. I would be very careful about trying this as it sounds dangerous to me

Up until 1999. I suffered from gastric reflux and had 7 or 8 stomach ulcers. I took medication for several years, despite requesting to be tested for the bacteria helicobacter pilori. I cured it oddly enough with RAW GARLIC!...if you want to read the full details, look at this BBC thread, my name on there is Kenlam..cheers Ken http://www.bbc.co.uk/dna/mbfood/F267046 ... #p60563802

Hi Paul, I found that very interesting and I am trying not to eat after 7pm. Doing ok with that. I have suffered acid reflux for quite a few years and take pariet daily. As long as I take that daily tablet I'm fine. Its amazing if I dont take that tablet in the morning, I suffer excruiating heartburn all day. As recently diagnosed OSA, I'm amazed that all symptons I have put up with for years all seem to be caused by OSA. Thanks for links

Lol, I like a good curry, but am finding too much spice now can make matters worse. I take prescribed Omeprazol daily to try and keep on top of it. trouble is I can probably be accused of not pestering the doc enough for little ailments, just 'dealing' with them. It doesnt help that when you do go for something, you feel rushed out the room sometimes. This issue affects others and has therefore required a bit more persistance.

Certainly a problem for me after a good curry! Seriously though do make sure that you concentrate on the OSA - you can always take Ranatidine (over the counter generic) for the reflux!

Interesting to read the 3rd link on reflux and sleep apnea. I do suffer acid reflux and this can sometimes wake me or prevent me going to sleep.

Just a tad! Thanks for the links, I need to dust off my old anatomy & physiology books and get my academic head on!

I detect a note of desperation that I remember all too well. Here are 3 links, the first two on epilepsy, vagus nerve stimulation and apnoea, the third on reflux and apnoea (I'm always a bit iffy about WebMD, but it seems generally pretty reasonable). Good luck. http://www.blackwell-synergy.com/links/ ... 203.x/abs/http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/entrez/quer ... t=Abstracthttp://www.webmd.com/content/Article/75 ... nting=true

well, I'm willing to give it a bash! Still... I'm willing to try anything at the moment! It would be good if you had any links to info about your research? Thanks, and well done on finding something that works for you!

Indeed, I don't like to take pills all the time and generally do it only once a week, say when going out for a meal socially. However, a lot of people take these pills on an ongoing basis for disorders such as gastric reflux.
I don't think that not eating in the evenings is in any way unhealthy. In fact, I'd suggest it's more likely to be healthy (some people swear by the health benefits of fasting). However, anyone who suffers from low blood sugar easily can drink the necessary nutrition in a clear liquid, e.g. apple juice. This does not tax the stomach. I often take a clear soup in the evening.
I confess that if CPAP worked for me then I might be inclined to revert to 3 meals a day.

Thanks for your experience - but please be aware that in my opinion (and that is all it is) you run other risks to your health by taking medicines to control your digestive system and bowel on a regular basis, plus dangers of low blood sugar though lack of suitable nutrition.
If it works for you, I'm glad, but I have reservations about your methods.
