My wife has done this in the past, the idea is to keep the mouth closed and kind of enforce nose breathing hopefully thus preventing snoring,I can tell you it doesnt work ! Ordinary cellotape is probably safe enough I wouldn't think it were strong enough to cause a problem.
It does seem to be the case that if the mouth is kept closed during sleep their is less inclination to snore but since the snoring noise is caused in the throat why does it make any difference if the passage of air is through the nose or the mouth?

Hi,

Interesting that your husband wears sellotape over his mouth! I wonder why this might help him sleep.

I wonder if this is safe and whether anyone else has used this for aiding sleep?

If you could ask your husband and maybe reply, this would be very much appreciated.

I am the wife of a (probable) sleep apnoea sufferer. He has episodes of breath holding and subsequent release of all the air from the lungs. He is of average weight and has had this condidtion for as long as I can remember (33 years)

Is this sleep apnoea?
Recently he has started to wear selotape on his mouth to keep it shut and says that this gives him a better nights sleep. However, I still hear the bouts of breathing obstruction. Can anyone comment or advise?
Thanks
