In the early day i was sleeping on my back as the mask leaks if i sleep on side and AHI was down to two, I still sleep on my back and AHI is up to 16, Mask is washed in soapy hot water twice a week and seal is wiped with a Dettol wipe every day, I am not aware of any leak. The machine records large leaks and its showing zero leak.
The sleep clinic will give me an APAP for a couple of days and that will determine whats wrong, just a bit of minor adjustment and I'll be fine.

Mike,

Fit the mask laying down in bed its the best way to fit it because your face muscles relax laying down.
Turn on your machine and feel all around the seal check for any air leaks ,check your straps if all ok then you have a good fit.

I myself always side sleep if you imagine the recovery position in first aid thats the way i kinda lie in bed i always keep my head and neck well propped up.

The other issue could be a dirty or greasy mask seal ,how often do you clean the seal ???

Regards,

Hello NM37,

I am pretty good on the leakage front, I dont bother with the ramp feature, just go straight in at 14, but obviously when i'm asleep who knows how much leakage I have, as for the pressure setting they set it lower than the APAP machine told them, cos they didn't believe it !, I dont know of course, all new to me, mask seems good, seal is well seated, will try to sleep and keep still !

I read your post last night going from 2 upto 16 obviously this is mask leakage problem ,
You have had the machine a couple of weeks if i remember rightly the pressure would not need adjusting so soon into therapy.

I would urge you to check and clean the mask ,ramp the machine for a mask check before you go off to sleep .Another thing re-ahi it will always be higher if your lying on your back its the worst sleeping position for osa .

The other snag for you is a set cpap machine will not compensate for leakage ,it will blow at the set pressure all night,so if your mask is leaking you will not get that set pressure.

The benefits of the apap machine is that it will compensate for leakage and increase the pressure accordingly to keep the airway open .

Hope this helps you ,

Regards,

Youch!!

From 2 to 16 is a definite reason to go back ASAP to the clinic. You are not timewasting and it is a matter that needs to be addressed URGENTLY. Good luck and please keep us posted!

Much better sleep last night, I was tired during day but brain was sharp and I felt part of the show rather than a side show.

Follow up appointment on 29th
