Re: Bit of a lapse |

Poor you - mine went away and then came back again, I have heard of several people that has happened to. I wonder if the germs just keep getting circulated up and down the tube) Any way - yes I got the wrap and on it went immediately. I was impressed with the speed of delivery. I have noticed a difference, not so much water! Although I still manage to get condensation but I think that is to be expected. Thanks so much for recommending it to me. I now have a snazzy blue tube it looks and feels so much better. Funny story - went to stay at a friends house last night so took machine as usual. The bed was up to the wall, so there was only one side that the machine could go on. My husband could not go on the wall side as he has done his back in. I managed to put machine on his side and drape the tube along the back of the pillows and over to me! I wasnt sure this would work, worried about the machine falling of table etc, or mask off my face. It worked well.....just goes to show how adaptable the machine is!!! Thought I would bore everyone with that little saga!! Thanks again Nuneatonman, hope your cold does not linger like mine...remember the olbas oil Karen

Rainout, i think is an american term for water condesing in the tube, definately res med in there american site offers an expensive cover and looks the job, but I got one from a brits company for a £10 and seems to work ok, it also cut down a lot of the wind noise vibrating on the corrugated tube, it was all done via the net and was using it in 3 days from order. It looks cheap, and after seeing it, thought how easy it would be to make if having the material.
Mike Moran in his book This Book Blows make a referance to it as being annoying and one of the things we have to master to accept cpap, mind you if his book is anything to go by he has quite a few hangups anyway with his OSA.

Just got back from seeing my consultant for a check. Overall he was extremely pleased about my progress, although I did tell him about the problems I was having with "rainout" He didn't seem to know about it and when I told him about the tube wrap he was unaware. I was wearing a scarf at the time and he told me to just use that!
I explained that I was going to try the proper wrap, I wonder how much we have to educate the so called professionals. He claimed not to know about this site, so I reinforced to him how good it was in giving moral and practical support to fellow sufferers.
Off to obtain my tube wrap from resmed
Cheers Karen

My Rain out issues and my trial with the fleece sleeve as purchsed, after my first night, and although we turned down the heating more I had no problems, no condensing problems and as the company advertised it did cut down a lot of the wind noise in the pipes, so on the whole very good value and £10 well spent.

By time I read your note I had already decided to make an order, anyway I will give it a try, I have noted your problems with the company, but shame this site does not give more positive advice about those common issues such as rain out, probably those are the reasons why so many professionals tend not to like these type of sites.

Hi got the fleece this am and from my first perception it is rather cheap and chearful, and do not expect it will work, but will try and keep an open mind when I try it tonight. Last night I tried to get the tubes in bed with me, that although worked, mask came off during night for the first time, although from my symptoms when I woke can't have been for long. will keep you posted of if successful, and if a big mistake at least this site will know. A freind who's brother in canada spoke of him making a bed each night for several years, as an efort for relief of rain out and noise of the air rushing through the pipes. Personaly I still call it that trusted thing, and have yet to name it!!!

Having wrote that last night - I think we had the coldest weather for ages and I do tend to keep my bedroom more on the cooler side! So last night was fun. Thanks for your comments Bill, will see how we get on. I expect at the moment you are enjoying the slightly warmer climate! Take care Karen

You certainly have the outside ambient temeperatues that can create rainout right across the UK during winter, but whether you experience rainout or not will depend on what your indiviudal household does about general heating over winter. Cheers, Bill

Hi all
It seems that a lot of things we buy to help us are very much down to personal choice. I am going to try the Resmed tube cover in the first instance and see how I get on with that. Anything is better than how it is at the moment and I do have to watch my pennies!
I do seem quite interested in the machine from Australia but not sure whether we have it that cold (maybe not) in this country.
I will let you all know how I get on. Sleep well Karen

Thanks you two guys, re rain out, decided against the heath robinson idea, as thought it would be rather noisy, so decided to purchase a fleece style one - it will cut down a lot of the noise associated with the corrugated type pipe, at £10 not too bad realy.

Presumably you are referring to this.... http://www.sleepzone.com.au/showitems.asp?heading1='SleepZone%20Heated%20CPAP%20Tube'Its not a humidifier, and goes between a flow generator/humidifier and a face mask. The purpose of the active heating of the hose is to stop the water molecules in the air stream from the xPAP flow generator from condensing into fluid form within the hose, due to low ambient temperatures. I use one in winter and find it is very effective in controlling rainout under cool winter ambient temperature conditions. I had previously tried passive tube wraps but found they were only effective in late autumn and early spring, but were not effective during winter. Cheers, Bill

re rainout, I like most others at this time of year suffer it, didn't the auries bring out the heated humidifier, to counteract it, but does not seem to work with me, I have had an idea of using bubble wrap, now a days it comes in plenty supply in packages by post so a freeby in that sence. Or of course ignore the large heating bills, and turn heating up.

Cheers Both! I've only seen anyone using a turkey baster for nasal stuff on youtube. I only use mine for clearing out condensation at the back of my old fridge... LOL Ken BTW I'm not vegetarian, I fry in lard...and am totally against the phoney war on cholesterol, but each to his own!!!

Thanks for that. I will be obtaining one swiftly I think, the keeping the tube under the blankets works a bit better, but I do fancy the cover it looks good as well. I do think it's a funny term - Rainout! There was some sense of relief though when I realised it is not just me. Another good reason for keeping this site going. Let's hope so, the thought is quite amusing actually - let's hope he's not vegetarian! Sorry Ken...it just conjours up an amusing image..just my sense of humour really. No offence meant! Take care both PS - the cold is slowly improving, I managed the mask all night last night, yeh!!!

Nuneaton man, I ought to be on commission, I have persuaded about 10 friends and family to use them, but I usually end up giving them in family goody bags! Karen, in practice it's not at all scary to do, just open your mouth in case you need to breathe whilst you are pouring the saline through your nostrils, the video of this kid who was inspired by the Oprah show in America will show you how to do it....I did it using a clean teapot for the a couple of days, whilst I was waiting for my first neti pot coming through the post...you can also drop the salt water in your nostrils using a turkey baster, if you really want to. My mum who is 89, did it without the salt in the water and complained that it made her nose feel sore....I always throw a handful of clean water to the entrance of my nostrils afterwards just in case the salt is slightly irritating. Have some kitchen paper ready and don't have the saline (salt water) to hot, be gentle if you are using a teapot spout. If the solution does not find it's way through easily, it is a sign that there is stuff up there that wants getting rid of, do not be despondent, you will get better at it....hope you feel desperate enough to do it, soon, only joking, it's entirely up to you...All the best Ken http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=GTxMYKfd0 ... re=related
