Yes, well, that was an interesting few months. Have had all kinds of foreign objects in my mouth since last talking to you…

But back to the subject of jaw advancement devices I tested 3 types of commonly advertised ‘off the peg’ MADs and one ‘tailor made’ device.

The former three all worked to varying degrees but, after trialling each, all revealed their individual faults such as: soon lost shape, fell out or fell to pieces. Some snorers recommend them though and they certainly proved, at least to me, that I was on the right course.

The latter device, fitted by a dentist and considerably more expensive than the former group, though it took some time to get used to, now works well and is still functioning after several months. I sleep quite well these days and even look forward to bedtime. Gone is the dread of those sleepless nights which, by the way, my GP put down to psychological reasons. Only fat people and smokers snore he tells me. Bless.

The successful device is made by ERKODENT, A German company who deserve capital letters because they have an excellent command of English and the will to use it. Ground-breaking.

Thanks very much all you kind snorers who have replied to this thread.

There are actually quite a few devices that allow for lateral movement.

Hi

There are loads of different jaw advancement products out there some cheap ones which you can fit yourself, but these can be very uncomfortable and tend to be discarded by most people after a few nights. The best ones to get are custom made products which you get by going to your dentist the newest and best product on the market today is the Orthoapnea appliance which is available from www [.] ashfordorthodontics [.] co [.] uk this is the only device available which lets you move your lower jaw forward and side to side while sleeping and also drinking liquids without removing the device.
hope this helps you

Regards

Hello.. again. Thank you all. Am now an expert on nuclear fallout, the DVLC and how to pour water up my nose.

But does anyone know anything about jaw advancement devices? This will be my fifth posting now, so far without a single reply.

But for the nature of the forum I might be tempted to think you are all fast asleep.

Hi PedrX

There are lots of threads on the forum about jaw advancement devices, or Mandibular Advancement Device (MAD) to give them their proper name.

Do a search for 'Mandibular Advancement Device', or 'MAD', or 'SomnoGaurd'. That should get you started.

I used a Tomed SomnoGaurd AP MAD for over two years so if there's anything specific you want to know then fire away.

Sorry Ped that we are not able to help you ... perhaps you could also try http://s7.zetaboards.com/Apnea_Board/index/ as a source of information. As NM says, we're principally OSA sufferers following xPAP treatments. Hope you find the information and support you're seeking.

Who cares about MADs - who cares about anything - people are talking to me! Never thought it could be so thrilling to learn absolutely nothing.

This also gives new purpose to my life - to venture out into the as yet unexplored world of MADness. I shall return... one day; and share my adventures.

I think you will find that the majority of users on this forum are diagnosed sufferers of osa and the condition is being managed by cpap therapy .

If there's no replies then im afraid there is nobody to help you

Perhaps go across the pond to the yanks they know it all on cpap and everything else involved with it

http://www.cpaptalk.com

If they can't answer your questions then im lost !!!

Good luck anyway ,

Regards,

NO I DON'T!! But just wanted to let you know someone cares! Seriously, I have read a bit about them - they pull your lower jaw forward which is supposed to open the airways, but I have no personal experience.

Good luck and hope someone else can help!
