Topic review - Mild Things!

Well, I think things can be a lot more complex than a simple 'one size fits all' NICE guidline!!!

I apparently only have 10 episodes per hour, but I'm very symptomatic. However, the results from the sleep study indicated not a lot happened in the first two hours and almost all the apnoeas happened in the last 4 hours :? I feel that just dividing the apnoeas by the hours of sleep is very simplistic and unrepresentative way to make a clinical dxescision. Rather, it should be symptom led too.

Since I have...erm....self treated with CPAP I am a lot better, so it certainly works for me. Proof of the pudding and all that:)

Interestingly, I recently found out a semi-retired colleague that works in my dept occasionally, has had OSA for at least 3 decades. He has only ever 'scored' a max14 AHI, and his studies usually come out at around 10 AHI. He is also highly symptomatic. So there are people out there that don't fit into the one size fits all model of OSA/ sleep disorders.

Glad you got a CPAP anyway. Seems your consultant is sensible enough to help you based on your symptoms :)

Put it this way Mountain, I have been given my Cpap machine on a "trial and error" basis. It makes me wonder if I am being treated like a guinea pig! I'm persevering to see what data gets picked up. I have told that there are "inklings of something" (consultant's words not mine!).

So, did you get properly diagnosed?
Do you get treatment?

Still waiting for my re-referral to come through :(

Oh yes, I'm being one of those damned medical people that uses jargon rather than plain English  I think I started the thread after my colleague was using the phrase!!!!

Sorry all :-?

So, anyone else out there with mild OSA that has suffered form extreme tiredness, poor memory, lack of concentration etc. etc.?

Or anyone, that has been diagnosed as mild and has had to have CPAP to deal with it?

Sorry but I don't qualify  Too far gone on my uncontrolled AHIs!

Might you perhaps help those who aren't sure if they're in your camp or not by giving more details of what's meant by 'symptomatic' OSA?
