Hello all,Ive just joined this forum today,Over the years my snoring has gradually got worse, Im 38 and and snore like a old man according to my hubby.. Ive put up with it for yearss but this last year its gone from bad to worse, It seems to be always my right nostril and my nose is very stuffy on the right side, everytime I lay down the snoring starts after 5/10 mins infact its gone from " normal snoring" to a big snort, a bit like when you have a cold and you sniff up and feels like you have lots of snot in your nose but nothing is there, This wakes me up all the time and its like I hold my breath for about 10 seconds whilst snorting..Does that make sense? In honest It must wake me up about 4/5 times a night, I dont know how my poor hubby can put up with it much longer.
My dr gave me nasal sprays to use, and finally refered me to the ENT at my local hospital James cook in Middlesbrough.

I saw my specialist Mr Singh and as soon as I sat down he said to me my nose as broken and that I needed a septoplasty and gave me steroid drops to try for 6 weeks then after the 6 weeks refer back to the nasal sprays. However I tried the Drops and percevierd with them for 2 weeks until I couldnt tkae any more as they gave me horrible headaches although they only lasted for about 5 minutes it felt like my head was going to explode they were that bad, so Im now using the drops.

Ive got an appointement to see him again in 2 weeks,The drops havent helped atall tbh,He did say if the septoplasty doesnt work then there is a more evasive surgery they can do afterwards.

Im just wondering how long do you normally have yo wait to have a septoplasty done,Im not looking forwrd to it one bit, But Im desperate and will try anything.Any advice would be really be appreciated thankyou

I am lucky enough not to have had a septoplasty but it gets mentioned frequently on this board and seems to be very painful. Why not make a search for it, and if nobody actually can help you on this post, you could send a private message to those who have posted about it in the past. Hope you find the solution very soon.

This sounds like a complete mirror of myself. After being on the nose sprays, drops, and steroids I saw a different Doctor at Ent and he told me I had a deviated septum and required a septoplasty operation to correct this. I now have an operation planned for the 13/10/2011, just one month after finally being diagnosed.

Hi, I've had septoplasty last year. My septum was twisted and it was causing nose blockages. I was told that in the future I may snore. The operation was held under general anasthetic, lasted about 45 mins. You must be prepared for quite big discomfort afterwards. I couldn't breathe through my nose for 2 weeks and it was dripping for 2 and half weeks. I was told to not go out for 2 weeks because of higher risk of infection. I hope this information will help.
Sandy

Take the Epworth-Test print off the results off and take them to your GP and discuss it.
