Hi

My husband is driving me crazy!!!
He has snored for years and in general i have become pretty resigned to it but some nights i just long for a good nights sleep!

He has had an op on his nose and has also been to a sleep clinic but nothing has helped. As he didn't actually snore while at the sleep clinic they think he doesn't have a problem.
Some nights he really scares me as he stops breathing then makes a snorting sound when he catches his breathe again.
He has been to our GP but she won't help!

I wondered if the partners of snorers have any solutions apart from seperate rooms and i carn't use ear plugs.

I would suggest that you and he both visit your doc again, and tell her what you wrote on here. Ask for a second sleep study, with a Polysomnogram. Good luck and keep in touch. Hopefully 2009 will see a solution to this problem xxxxxxxx

Sorry to hear of your problem and husband snoring, but to take up your point of him stopping breathing, that was the main factors that I had to persevere with the doctors re getting a fuller sleep study, and being referred to ent specialist.

My wife and I went prepaired with a tape of my snoring, along with some lengths of time I use to stop breathing. along with the epworth test, I also went with some info, of if drowsy during the day, also if having a history of dropping off during the day, and where I was or what I was doing.

Along side of the many first rank symptoms for osa, there are issues of mental health changing, such as irritability and depression. Also don't be frightened to ask for a second opinion, sadly even still many medics do not fully undrstand the issues that go with OSA, although the treatment is now available under the nhs.

good luck.

I have been with my boyfriend for over 2yrs,at the start I could sleep through his snoring but over the last year I am being woken up by his snoring and cant get back to sleep,I find myself watching the tv in the sitting room until I cant keep my eyes open then I go back to bed until i fall alseep. I have always been a really good sleeper until now. I suffer with epilpesy and sleep is vital to me. He has tried nasal sprays, throat sprays and nasal strips. I have used ear plugs but I really dont like them. Sad

Has anyone got any good suggestions to help him and ME?

I would suggest that for the sake of your health and his, you read up on the condition of Obstructive Sleep Apnoea (this site is a great place to start) and visit the doc together.

Congratulations on your desire to do something loving for him involving bed but not s*x! I hope that you both be able to look on 2009 as the year in which you both slept long and healthily. xxxxx

I find that a big elbow in the side does the trick with my partner shortly followed by a kick in the arse.

This will shortly be followed by the threat of a shotgun... he normally then retires to the sofa/spare room... however I will say this has reduced our intimacy and has had a major effect on our relationship.

Thank god for this website and my rabbit! Laughing
