.... could it be because when you were 'measured' for the amount of pressure your airway needs to stay open, 16 mB was the correct pressure? Seriously the numbers shouldn't spook you. Your machine is capable of plenty more than 16! Try ramping your machine for a maximum period and reset it if you aren't asleep by the time that you get to the end of the ramp - between 20 and 30 mins depending on the machine.
You may need to relax a bit more! But also ask your sleep technician if your machine has the C-flex feature that allows for the out breath to be under less pressure than the in breath which might be more comfy for you.

thanks for your reply , i was never measured for pressure so perhaps that is part of the problem , my original setting was 20 mb ( which was the max for this unit ) my system has c flex & a humidifier . last night was par put on a nasal strip fitted the mask & went to sleep 75 mins later woke with the mask jumping off my face adjusted the straps pressed the ramp & went back to sleep , 20 mins later same thing after three times i give up in anger this has unchanged for six months same old . i am desperate to get this sorted but keep running in to the same brick wall any suggestions would be welcome

WHOOPS DEGS!!
You've hit the nail on the head.
You MUST (excuse the shouting) be measured to see how much pressure you need! This machine has obviously not been calibrated to your needs, and it's no wonder you can't cope with it giving maximum force!!!
I wonder how you managed to get the machine without having been 'measured' for the pressure!!!
GO BACK TO YOUR DOCTOR OR SLEEP CLINIC and get your pressure requirements tested. THIS IS URGENT. AND IMPERATIVE!! (and I don't usually shout like this promise!!!)
NO point in having the C-flex in use if the actual pressures haven't been determined!!! And the humidifier won't help until the actual pressure is correct as it doesn't act on the pressure.
This must have been 6 months of HELL. GO BACK TO THE CLINIC - tell them the truth that it's an emergency. GOOD LUCK - and please let us know how you get on.

I think you need to go back to the clinic with your concerns and ask them why they think you need this pressure and how they arrived at this setting.

APAP - Machine that will adjust the pressure through the night for your needs. Its starts at 4cm and when apnoeas occur it will increase the pressure to clear the obstruction ,once cleared it will lower the pressure down .
Your set cpap machine which you say is at 16 will blow 16 all night long even if you don't need that pressure .
Perhaps ask for Apap may be better for you in the long run no need to keep getting the pressure checked at the hospital .

Why do the give you cpap instead of apap - Its cheaper !!!!!
There have been others on the site who argued that there care would be better on apap and got one ,some hospitals do issue apap machines all depends on there budget .
I bought my own ,costly but well worth it .

Hey Degs hope it works out for you ,
The humidifier problems - If you are waking up still dry mouthed try this -
Set the humidifier to the highest setting then each night work down until you find the most comfortable setting. The air should be warm and moist and no dry mouth feeling.
Good luck with it all,
Regards,
