I was diagnosed with severe sleep apnoea a couple of months ago, and am lucky enough to come under the umbrella of Papworth Hospital who are truly amazing ...... after a sleep study in my local hospital I was very quickly referred to Papworth for another one, was found to have over 70 apnoeas an hour, which was reduced to under 7 with the CPAP, I was given my CPAP machine to take away with me, and have been back for my follow-up appointment this week. I cannot begin to describe the difference it has made to my energy levels, state of mind and sleep pattern!!
I seem to be one of the lucky ones....apart from a dry mouth which was cured by being given a humidifier, and a smaller mask which solved a few unpleasant farting noises from my cheeks during the night, I have had no problems at all. I wake up earlier and more refreshed, my family tell me I'm not nearly so grumpy! Another side effect is that I no longer get up 2 or 3 times a night for a wee......... apparently if you don't ever get to REM sleep, your body doesn't release the chemicals which stop urine being produced in the night!
I also had no problem with the DVLA, and have been allowed to continue driving!
I feel like the luckiest person alive, and I will probably be hated for being so positive about all this when so many of you are having problems.....but I just wanted to say 'keep on trying' as it can work! Papworth Sleep Clinic need a medal!
