Silly question time again!

Apart from coffee and Red Bull is there anything I can take to temporarily relieve the tiredness throughout the day, any particular food stuffs that can boost and overcome tiredness without being too unhealthy? I'm not expecting there to be really, I'm just feeling extra tired since my consultation, I seem to notice it more everyday. Maybe because I was expecting too much too soon?

I don't know of any :(

Have a look at my post which I made just after you were diagnosed. You may be able to speed the consultation up.

Just to add, when you get your diagnosis try not to be fobbed off for a year as I was!!!

To be honest digesting the diagnosis and the list of questions etc. caught me a bit off guard.
With hindsight, I should have pushed some more and said that being a zombie and eating salad for a year is not acceptable.

Oh well, we live and learn!

As for staying awake, I'm pretty much caffeine fuelled too....especially for work. I expect it's probably a bit counter-productive but we have to keep going somehow to pay the bills. I don't know the answer....probably just make sure you get rest when you can, and make sure those around you realise you have a medical condition that makes you knackered, spaced out etc.

Good luck in your quest for sleep.

Thanks James1, I'll do that. He said they'd send me a letter detailing when I had to go back, if there isn't one on Monday morning I'll go and chase my GP. 8)

Mountain, why don't you try the same? Go to your GP and say that the condition is seriously affecting your ability to cope and that you need to be reassessed?

Look into Modafinil its given to people who still feel tired when on cpap therapy , unsure if your gp would prescribe it to you now but worth asking about .

I got a date through to pick up the test equipment, two weeks tomorrow and they want it back the morning after. I would have though they would have studied a few nights worth of data? Some nights are better than others so taking one sample may not be indicative of the overall problem?

Once night's data will give enough information for them to go on!

Damn I'd have easily got those few extra apnoeas to meet nice CPAP guidelines after a few beers :o

Just remember the mints and mouthwash in the morning Headthrob :D

I haven't got to go to work in the morning either as I have to take the kit back. I'll have to do as mountain says and get the mints ready and not stagger in to hospital

I really want to know the severity of the situation for real though, to see what i'm facing up against but if I was given some advice about coming back in a year, i think that would finish me off! :?

Overnight polysomnography in a sleep lab is the best test you can have it does everything monitors your brain activity ,breathing ,its recorded on video so they can view whats happening in your sleep with the brain activity and recorded with sound aswell .

Seems like this is now not done by a majority of hospitals because of the cost implications involved .

The overnight test is really funny man you have electrodes placed all over your head and face ,wires everywhere , 2 elastic belts around your chest and stomach ,a small tube in your nostrils , finger pulse monitor and then they say " Have a good sleep" .

And to top that the sleep lab is near the hospitals boiler plant room and its not quiet .

Worse nights sleep ever woke up loads of times in the night and at 5.30am took gear off and went home .

Test results take 8 weeks to come back - Severe osa 54 ahi .
On cpap my ahi per night 0.3 - 0.5 all night .

Regards,

I have to go to Hexham hospital for my first appointment with a sleep specialist (nurse). Does anyone have any experience of Northumberland and its procedures.

If I had a sleep test now I would probably rate very highly on the snoring as I have damaged my ribs so much so that my snoring is waking me too.

Today is the day that I pick my sleep test kit up! 8)

I really can't wait to get all of this over with and get a good night's sleep. I went to bed at half 8 last night and got up at 6 and I feel as tired as ever, even after breakfast and a strong cup of coffee :(

I'm going to ask them what the result process is and where the bottle neck is, it might be that they can get the results straight away but it takes weeks to get another date with the consultant? If you don't ask, you don't get.
