We are going on holiday to USA in Sept. We have used a really good company as my hubby has had health probs and their charges are very reasonable.

I asked hubby to call the company and advise them I had OSA. What they said is that if I'm being treated with a CPAP machine then they will charge an extra £83 for the priviledge. If I wasn't being treated they wouldn't charge but it would be noted that I had told them.

How does that work???

They advised I was to wait 3 months to see if I still needed the CPAP when I go on holiday and then inform them!!! Ridiculous!!

Any other experiences with this anyone?

Thanks

Of course you'll need your xPAP machine when you travel! Consider changing your travel insurance company!! Oh and don't forget to inform your airline that you are travelling with an xPAP machine ... that you wish to carry it as another piece of handbaggage (free because it's medical equipment) and start to investigate if you'll need to buy a battery to use with it on the plane for your overnight's sleep.

Good Morning!

Thanks for your replies but unfortunately we bought a full years travel insurance in February before I was diagnosed.

My hubby has had serious health issues and we found this company last year as they really were the cheapest with the best cover. We had been quoted from £300 to £700 last year from various companies when we went to USA and we got cover through this company for £150 for single trip cover.

Asked for quote from the company in Feb when I didn't have diagnosed problems and cover was this year £160 for annual cover which we bought. I think I am just going to have to contact the company again and back it up with documentary evidence that the CPAP is a vital bit of kit and not something that is going to go away! From their point of view I would have thought that it is good I am being treated with CPAP and should not make any difference to the cost of insurance.

If I have to pay extra I suppose it's still cheaper than other quotes anyway :D

I have just come across an on line company called TravelInsurancedirect. So long as you use the machine they don't charge extra premium for SA. Before that I came across a couple of Companies who wanted to charge more if you used the machine but NO extra cover if you had SA and didn't use a machine. I thought it was crazy.
