Post subject: Excessive Sleepiness V Excessive Tiredness

Hi,

IÂ’m going through the process of getting a diagnosis regards sleep apnoea.
One problem I have is the term ‘Excessive Daytime Sleepiness’. I wouldn’t describe what I feel as sleepiness, but rather as extreme tiredness or fatigue. The term ‘sleepiness’ seems to conjure a pleasant, dozy, feeling rather than the harsh feelings I experience. Sure I could go asleep at any time of the day, but the discomfort of the feeling coupled with the adrenaline sent through my body to enable me to work etc during the day, often makes it hard to switch off at night in bed and go to sleep.

Does anyone feel the same way?

Gregg

To be honest, what you describe is classic Sleep Apnoea symptoms (although I must stress I'm no doctor). It's exactly how I felt before I was diagnosed.....constantly fatigued and no sensation of that dozy, sleep feeling. I think it's just peoples way of describing how they feel.

Either way, if you feel completely fatigued all day long, if you suffer from headaches and aching legs and if you feel like just giving up, you almost certainly need to get sorted Smile

And you're right, I used to find it hard to switch off at night, especially knowing that I'd wake up the next morning feeling just as bad, if not worse.

Keep hanging in there. Once you get the treatment, your world will change.

I've always resisted the description of tired and insisted on calling it "sleepiness" though I do aknowledge it's not like that pleasant drifting feeling more like a sort of tension only relieved by a cat nap in my case, and the bedtime restlessness as well.
