Post subject: Where can I buy a mask in the UK?
PostPosted: Sat Jul 23, 2005 5:04 pm
I have just moved to London from the US and will be here for about 3 years, I currently use the DreamSeal Interface with Cushion from Breeze SleepGear type of mask. My current mask is near the end of it's life span, and I would like to purchase another one here in the UK. Does anyone know who sells masks in the Uk and how to contact them..

Thanks

Vaughan

Vaughan, I have just spent a long weekend trying to track down suppliers of CPAP machines and masks. Internet searches resulted in very few hits in the UK but quite a few in the USA. I placed an order with ResMed (UK) Ltd yesterday morning and everything was delivered first thing this morning so that was impressive. Anyway, the following list may be useful - in no particular order and without any particular recommendations or promises of accuracy:

ResMed (UK) Ltd: Tel. 01235 862997
UK WEB site diverts to US www.resmed.com
DeVilbiss: Tel 01442 213542
Profile Respiratory: Tel. 01384 446858
Vital Signs Breas: Tel. 01456 444955 (Not sure the name is right)
Just Natural Stuff: Tel. 0870 7408335
www.justnaturalstuff.co.uk
British Snoring & Sleep Apnoea Association www.britishsnoring.co.uk (i.e. linked to THIS site)

The Irsh Sleep Apnoea Trust web site lists half a dozen Eire based suppliers on www.isat.ie/cpap_suppliers.htm

I considered importing from the USA. My discussion with UK Customs (http://customs.hmrc.gov.uk) suggests that imports of CPAP equipment (if properly classified) should be duty free and might be rated at either 0% or 17.5% for VAT purposes .... I gave up trying to track down an explanation. A suggested clasification code for import into the EU was 9019 20 0000 - but please don't rely on my information being right.

A few of the US web sites I found are:

www.advanscap.com
www.resmed.com
www.cpapman.com
www.sleepmarket.com
www.cpapplus.com

Web site quality is very variable, as are prices. The most disappointing aspect of my search was the poor representation of UK suppliers. There must be more out there though, if so, the web searches failed to find them.

Hope there is something helpful for you in that lot. I am sure others with more experience will be able to suggest alternatives.

Good luck.
