hi iv had problems with getting a mask to fit well and think i have cracked it as im now able to keep my mask on for 6/7 hours a night. i was just wondering how do you know its under control? i feel much more awake in the day now. i did try to sleep without it the other day, as went away for the night and there wasnt a power point close to the bed, but i couldnt get to sleep, so ended up on the sofa so could use my cpap machine. so dose that mean that its under control now. :D

Hi Pink and WELCOME!

Just a couple of points. What type of CPAP machine do you have? Some machines allow you the user to look at the data being recorded each night which will give you feedback as to how you're doing ... and some don't, only allowing the technicians to 'interrogate' them! Let us know and perhaps we can help you to access your data!

When you travel, you MUST take an extension lead (and if you're travelling abroad, an adapter) with you!! Strange beds don't mean a 'night off'! OSA NEVER takes a holiday!!!!

hi, my machine is a resmed s8 escape 2. i now know i can not go one night without my cpap machine. which is why i sleeped on the sofa as there was no power point in the bedroom that would reach. iv had my machine for a year but gave up with it as i couldnt get on with the mask. i left it for about 10 months then got on the internet to see what other people were doing. i found alot were saying they tryed lots of different masks, which made me make another appointment as i have 2 young children i always felt tired and was getting quite grumpy. so i needed to make it work so far iv been using it every night for the past 10 weeks and most nights managed 6/7 hours. i did suffer with a dry mouth when i first stated but that seems to be getting better now. i go to see the sleep doctors on 4 july, im feeling happy with my progress and know that it will be worth it in the end as i have more energy to do things with my kids. :D

Glad to hear that you've got the extension lead lined up ... don't forget the adapter though ... I have one that lets me run several leads at a time, one for the phone charger, one for the camera battery charger etc!!

Data of your nocturnal activities .... well some of them! ... is stored on a data card which is normally read by your sleep technician or doctor. It is not normally intended to be accessed by the patient ... so I can't help you with this. Mind you you might find more information in the Patient's User Guide ...

if you've lost your original copy!

You'll enjoy your holiday even more if you use your CPAP at night ... more energy during the day! Have a great time.

Hi pink
Glad to see you are now using the machine :) it is not easy for some to start using the xpap machines.
Dryness can be helped with a humidifier.
Masks are always the worst problem as no two people have the same shape or size of face. You appear to have found one that works for you so thats good.
A lot of sucess with cpap is making up your mind it is going to work. Then it is just getting a mask or nose pillows that you are happy with.
Believe me you will know when it stops working for you, tirdness, not feeling refreshed in the morning and some people suffer headaches. If this happens to you an odd time it is usually just a bad night, just take care that day, but if it lasts for a few days call the clinic for advice. If you get a cold it may affect how you feel in the morning so allow for that.
Welcome to the world of Hoseheads.
A long extention cable and adapter need to be taken with you at all times, I found one with at least a three sockets is required as phones and other small things need plugged in as well.

Take care and don't be shy in asking anything. We are not doctors so we can only go by our own experience.

S2S

Phones are not easy to type on so if bits don't make sense it is my big fingers
