Apologies if this is old news, but for me it is new news! And for all you Res Med users out there of whom I know there are many, hopefully this will be of some interest to you.

Last week I had to go to my local ResMed setup to get my Ultra Mirage face mask fixed. The swivel mechanism on the forehead bridging piece had somehow broken making it impossible for me to get a secure and airtight fit to the face. This the girls at the centre quickly sorted for me!

Whilst I was there I saw 2 new face masks and I meant to report back on them before now, yesterday however I received in the post from ResMed full details of the 2 masks in a mail shot, and this has prompted me to make this post.

The first mask is called the "Quattro" and is a replacement for the Ultra Mirage. It is a full face mask. For the time being it would appear the Ultra Mirage will continue to be sold but at a heavily discounted price (33% off the previous selling price £80 v £120). The list price of the Quattro for those of you like myself who have to purchase is £120 (£114 with discount card).

The second mask is called the "Liberty". It is also a full face mask, or at least it is described as such. It is more akin to the "hybrid" masks that have been reported previously on the forum message boards and hitherto only available in the States. Rather than cover the whole mouth and nose area the mask moulding simply covers the mouth, seated on top of this much smaller mask are what are described as 2 "nasal pillows" which insert directly into each nostril. The mask is priced at £125 (£119 with discount card).

Both masks can be seen on the ResMed website. Click on the link and then look at new products. For each of the masks there is an image gallery which shows you several thumbnails of both masks.

Nice to see continued innovation. What is this discount card you speak of and how does it work exactly?

The discount card is part of Resmed's service to their customers it's called 'sleep vantage'. If you have a Resmed product you are welcome to join. Benefits are 50% extension on warranty periods, a discount and priority status to trial new Resmed products.

Having received Resmed service for a minor sum, I'm well and truly impressed.

Paul.

Hi
I have been given a Liberty face mask by my clinic to try as I have a problem with masks making the bridge of my nose very sore.
It is taking a bit of perseverance to get leak free, and every so often I give up and resort to a few nights with my original mask, as I feel really tired after several leaky nights. I am hopeful though, that I'm at last getting there with the Liberty.
For me, is certainly worth persevering with as I find it very comfortable, especially as I sleep on my side.It will have taken me a couple of months though to get there!
Well worth trying if you are not doing well with your present mask
Hope this is of use to someone!
Ruth

Thank you for that information and the update Ruth.

I am sure that many people myself included will be interested to hear of your experiences with the Liberty mask. The new Quattro is I am sure going to be very similar to the Ultra Mirage in feel and performance. The Liberty is, however, quite a different concept, and one which from reading about similar "hybrid" masks on American websites has been well received, but which for various reasons do not appear to be widely available here in the UK at this time.

So please keep us updated with your thoughts and observations on it.

I was having a lot of problems with my Ultra Mirage leaking, so as soon as the Quattro was launced I was on the phone to Resmed. The Quattro is a vast improvement on the Ultra Mirage and I have had no problems at all. No leaks and very comfortable, I would recommend it to anyone, especially those currently using Ultra Mirage or similar.

So, did ResMed then admit its predecessor was inherently flawed, with all the leaks I see reported in the various fora?
