firstly thanks to eveyone who has replied to my previous threads and offered advice.

Its all happened quite quickly really,

referred 7 July 2009
Sleep test 3 August 2009
Collect CPAP 9 September 2009

I was really impressed with the specialist nurse at ST James hospital who talked me through the options, how it all worked, care etc. She even offered a humidifier should I need one after this initial 2 week trial

So last night at 10:30 I went to bed. It was much quieter than I expected and although it took me about an hour to get to sleep it was by far the best nights sleep i have had for many months. Although I needed to go to the bathroom twice (better than than the normal 6 - 8 visits!) and refitting the mask (i will probably just pull the pipe off in future) in the dark was a fiddle I feel that it has made a huge difference.
I woke not feeling tired, I was alert on my drive to work and I am sure that I am going to be much more productive.
The real test will be saturday night seeing if I can stay awake to watch match of the day!

keep at it, it appears you are achieving, if you need a humidifier, it will soon identify itself by dry mouth sore throat or raspy voice or just uncomfort when breathing with cpap.

Essentialy keep a very positive mind and attitude to it.

Says it all really. :)

Most people need a humidifier, so don't be afraid to ask for one if you need one.
Surprised the clinic mentioned a humidifier. Well done that nurse.
The first time a humidifier was mentioned to me was when I phoned to say I couldn't breathe after couple of hours on the machine. I was told to try taking a drink and/or spraying water up my nose to see if that helped
Turned out he was trying to save the cost of one as his budget was very poor back then, but I did get one after I tried everything he suggested first :) Machines were quite large back then and are now a third of the size and a lot quieter :)
