Hi all
Just joined the forum, I was on another that recently went belly up when it was taken over by a company!

Just a quickish run down on myself. I'm almost 47, married no kids, work with the wife running our own business from home. I'm well over weight and am waiting for a stomach bypass op. (second consult next Tuesday). I have a wide range of interests and pass times. Currently into metal detecting in a big way.

1.00am Christmas day 2006 I was rushed into hospital with Gall bladder problems. Within 6 weeks they had removed it. While talking to the Anaesthetise, I mentioned that 15 years earlier I'd suspected that I had OSA. At that time the G.P. told me that they did not have a sleep clinic in that area. So nothing was done about it at that time.

The Anaesthetise, who was German and sounded like Heir Flick off Hello, Hello, then said that I should get myself refereed to the Sleep Clinic at the hospital. This I did the middle of last year. Two months later I was the proud user of a CPAP machine, I had mild OSA, between 10 to 15 events an hour. Currently I am running my machine at 12cm H2O and am very happy with the treatment and the results.

The best way to describe my machine is to watch a video I made last year as part of a competition. The one handed title is a little play on words as I knocked it up in a couple off hours with no tripod.

Hi mate, they came up with this over a week ago! Shocked

Quote "Sorry, the board is unavailable at the moment while we are testing some functionality.

We will be back in 24 hours..."

So moved over here, getting cpap forum withdrawal. Laughing Laughing Laughing

Hi guys,

I've been on here for quite a while, well before the other one existed, and it is pretty good I must say....

Hi Guys,
Glad that I found you after the loss of the other place.
Shame it all went belly up but hey...
No use crying over spilt milk.
Hopefully this forum will take it's place.

Hi Puffin, glad you've moved here!

Have you had your appointment with the anaesthetist? The one that delayed your surgery?

Nice to "see" so many old mates here.

I had withdrawal symptoms too.

Hi SteveP
Yes I had the appointment today. What pee'ed me off was I had too wait 8 weeks, for a 5 minute chat and a set of blood samples. I took my machine along with me as I did not want to leave anything to chance.
Turns out the surgery team where trying to short cut the system to get a number of op's in before the end of the financial year. And when the question of CPAP came up it chucked a spanner in the works. Normally if someone with OSA goes under the knife and is well over weight they have to go on to the High Dependency Unit, a matter of waiting for a bed. But because I had no problems when I had my gall bladder out last year, I would be on a normal ward.

Because I was compliant with cpap and used it every night, he could not see that there was a problem and that the op. could go ahead. He could not give me a date for the op. I've got to wait until the hospital gives me the date. Sad

hey all -

I gave the whole CPAP Forum thingee a rest for a while - the joy had gone out of it - in fact only went back a few days back - to find it down (did we cause that to some extent ??) - Hopefully i'll come back here a bit now.

Especially as my old muckers are here - nice to have you around Laughing
