Hi everyone

Had my Septoplasty and Turbinate Reduction op on 15 February 2010. I had Septoplasty and turbinate reduction. Unfortunately I was in excruciating pain for around 5 days post op and hardly slept at all. I had packing and splints. Splints were removed 7 days post op. What a relief that was. I was only given paracetamol and diclofenac for pain relief. (If you're having the surgery ask for Morphine or Tramadol - I'm allergic to Morphine and wasn't allowed Tramadol as I had this surgery done as a result of a head injury :( Hopefully you'll be luckier)

Had 2 weeks off work and needed every day of that. Now 21 days post op and I can't believe how much energy I have!! Is this normal? It would appear that I am now sleeping like a normal person and not snoring. I no longer feel like going to bed straight after a days’ work, falling asleep at work... Oxygen is actually reaching my brain - how novel

If anyone is thinking of having this done go for it, I can't believe how much it has changed my life for the better. You will forget about the pain and it really is worth it.

I do have one question though: Is there anyone out there who has had to have this done more than once? I have heard that cartilage has 'memory' and can 'grow back'. How true is this?

Good luck guys and gals :D

I'm suffering from OSA at the moment and i'm awaitinga further consultation with my local ENT next fortnight.

I've been expecting a tonsil removal op but after checking this - it seems this is alot more worthwhile of a procedure.

Can I ask if you've gone down the route of the tonsil op yourself?

I'm really keen fr more info, OSA really affecting me in all walks - work is taking me down disciplinary route due to lateness and days off ( even after diagnosis ) i have a young baby who i at times wake up due to my frequent movement at night.

Any help is gretaly appreciated,

Sorry to hear your work aren't being supportive. They should be ashamed :( I would wait to speak to your ENT. No-one on here can advise as much as a professional. Be patient. They will do what is best for you. My nose had been broken so they knew this was the best op for me. Tonsils and throat never figured. Everyone is different!! Hope it all works out for you :) take care of yourself and your young baby :)

Welcome new_snout and Kraljski!

Whilst I sympathise greatly with you Kraljski, I would be surprised if a tonsillectomy would solve your problems at a stroke so to speak. You might find that even with more space in your throat after your op, your throat is still closing as the muscles relax, so don't think that your op will necessarily remove your OSA.

I have heard that soft palate tissue can grow back after an op ... but as for a deviated septum ............ I hope that other members can shed light on this.
