Hi
I have to be tested for sleep apnoea on Friday. I'm not sure what to expect. The letter I have received from the hospital is negative, along the lines of " we'll test you, but there probably isn't anything we can do for you" So as you can imagine I feel really great! My problem has increased over the past 3 1/2 years until I'm at the point of desperation. Can anyone offer their thoughts to help me?

Thanks
D

Even if they can't provide you with a machine, they should be able to give you a diagnosis and prescription. Although not an ideal solution, if you need and can afford to, buy your own machine, do so. The improvements will be well worth it. You can't buy a CPAP machine in the UK without a prescription.

Dorothy,

It does seem as if your hospital is being very negative. However, I would wait and see what happens on Friday as you may find that this is a very poorly worded standard letter and that they are more positive in person.

At the very least you will finally get a diagnosis and hopefully they will provide you with a machine if you need one. If not, I would fully echo what BigEars has said about buying one if you can afford it. When you consider the benefits, then you will quickly realise that the cost is not unreasonable.

Hope everything goes well on Friday.

Thanks so much for your positive comments. I feel better knowing that I am not alone. I will check out the CPAP machine after my hospital visit.
