hi soz to hear you are having a hard time but im sure once the thriod is sorted things will improve for you. i have two medical condtions which both make OSA worse and effect the conditions themselfs. i have epilepsy which is made worse by fatigue and sleep deprivation so that and osa go very well together!!! and asthma which has gotton worse over the years and become what is known as brittle asthma, this effects me and OSA by always having a narrowed airway due to the asthma well i guess this dosnt help to well with the collaping of it during the night!! also due to treatment foe both these condtions i am overweight due to fliud retention caused by medication so all in all its a lot of fun. dvla will give you your lesince once you have stated cpap and when your symptoms are undercontrol. (sorry about spelling)
take care jaycie x

Hi Rob!
I have a similar problem to you with a non-functioning thyroid. Although I have been correctly medicated and use a CPAP, I still suffer from excessive daytime sleepiness - a couple of hours extra in the morning, three in the afternoon and a full night's sleep. I get very PPPPd off that I get so little done in the day - and my brain is often at its clearest around 10 or 11 pm.
As you get older, I think you have to learn to be kinder to yourself - but I'm finding it hard to so.

Hi Rob,
I've only just been diagnosed with sleep apnoea (end of April)- just had the CPAP trial and now have to wait for the results and another appointment and then for a machine etc etc.
I have been an insulin dependant diabetic for 14 years now but in the last four years I have had increasing difficulty controlling my blood sugars and having excessive daytime sleepiness. I spent 3 months off work and a week in hospital last year due to crippling fatigue, my mood swings are horrendous and my marriage has nearly come to an end several times. My diabetic consultant diagnosed me as having Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and admitted it was cause they didn't know what was wrong with me...that was in July 05.
Now I realise it was the OSA and the high blood sugars in the morning are most likely down to the adrenaline dump the body gets when the brain wakes it up to breath. It's not easy having two conflicting conditions but at least when you know what they are you can do something about it.
All the best AndyB

Thanks Andy for your post im sorry to here of your double trouble for want of better way of putting it. I can total sympathise with you. I have now got the thyroisism 99%under control and tonight i start my first night on my own cpap machine ( see my post in cpap section for more info). It is as you said a reliefe when you get to the bottom of it and start sorting it i do hope all goes well for you in the future. and now you know whats what im sure you will.
