Quick history, I have had various health issues for some time that could fit sleep apnoea. My gp referred me to the hospital and I used one an oximeter at home. Unfortunately that night was the best nights sleep I had had for ages and was untypical. The results showed no signs of apnoea and hence no further action or treatment.

I am considering buying an oximeter so that I can monitor my sleep over more than just one night. If it shows nothing then at least I know that the previous test was not an aberration and if the results appear positive it gives me something to take to my doctor and the hospital.

I see on ebay that the Contec CMS-50F is available for about £65 and looks to be similar to the unit I was given by the hospital. I would be happy to pay this if it will do what I want as I am sure I will be able to resell it and hence the total cost will be minimal.

Has anyone used this unit or similar Contec product? Obviously I am interested in how well it worked but also in how easy it was to interpret the results?

thanks

Sorry I don't know the product you are referring to. I hope some other members will be able to help you.

My Oximeter test also came back fine but the follow on test (more in deph) came back with mild Apnoea.

Are you sure they are not going to carry out any other tests?

I'd follow up on a more in deph test as they will issue you with the pulse oximeter again anyway

The Contec is a good little device for home use and comes with the software you need. As far as I know it doesn't work with Mac computers though, but I think there is a programme you can get if that's the case. That's a good price too :)

Go back to your GP and explain what you explained to us, home tests is no substitute for a full sleep study. Get your GP to write to them again asking for a full study at the hospital.
