I recently had a Finger Pulse Oximetry sleep study. I haven't been told the results yet but I got a phone call from the consultants secretary today to say that they want me to have a stardust study next week. The consultants secretary said that my notes state that I have symptomatic sleep apnea and they need to do further detailed tests. This is all new to me so I am not sure what all of this means and what additional information the stardust study will produce. Any information that anyone could provide would be very helpful, thank you

Thanks for the link Alsacienne. The stardust study is on the 9th, and my follow-up appointment for the results is on the 17th May. I am hoping whatever is wrong any treatment offered will alleviate my constant morning headaches and tiredness.

I have had sleeping problems ever since I can remember, I used to share a bedroom with my older sister when I was a child and remember her waking me up numerous times because of my strange breathing. My partner has noticed my strange breathing for many years apparently he says that I don't really snore but will breath rapidly or very very slowly and every so often seem to stop breathing and then puff out air through my mouth really loudly.

Up until recently I never associated my symptoms as sleep apnoea as I have mentioned it previously to my doctor but he said that as I had a bmi of 22 and didn’t snore he then it was probably not sleep apnoea. Recently my partner has been having really bad sleepless nights because of my strange breathing so I decided to make another appointment with the doctor and insisted that he referred me for a sleep study.

So it seems from the first test that I had a couple of weeks ago that I have symptomatic sleep apnoea, now I just have to wait and see what the next set of study results bring. I am not sure what sort of results will determine whether I will receive further treatment or not, does anyone have any advice on this?

Once you have done your study, your doc will have firm results to go on, and it's very likely that at your appointment on 17 May you'll learn whether you have OSA or not, and will probably be issued straight away with an xPAP machine to help you. Please don't let anyone fob you off that with your BMI you can't have OSA or that it's only if you sleep in a certain position. If you have more than 15 AHIs per hour, PUSH FOR xPAP TREATMENT or demand a re-test at the very minimum ... controlled OSA is less than 5 AHI events per hour, moderate OSA is 10 AHIs and 15 AHIs shows severe OSA that requires treatment.

Thank you for your support, I have sorted out my registration so am now a member Although my doctor hasn't been very proactive, I must admit I have been very impressed with how quickly the first appointment came through from the sleep study centre and also how quickly they have followed-up with the 2nd study. I will keep you posted with what happens at my appointment on the 17th - thanks again
