That's exactly what I was planning to do with the elastic band!

Thank you everyone :)

At the hospital today I have been given a smaller mirage mask. Being furnished with the correct info really helped.

I was also given a different style mask to try. I was told I had exactly the same number of incidents during the night as I had during my sleep test aNd that every one of them coinsided with a leakage.

My machine has been changed to an S9.

I have another appointment in 2 weeks time to see how I am getting on.

The extra straps look as though they could be useful too Thank you head and trinity.

Alsacienne sorry I have been MIA. I am running back and forward over 100 mile round trip every other day to help out my elderly aunt but next week we should be back to normal.

I told my girlfriend about the elastic band and she was horrified, she made an excellent suggestion. She has an all feather pillow, so she gave it to me last night instead of my firmer pillow. That worked a treat! The mask hardly moved at all, no matter what position I lay in, the only thing that woke me was our baby crying for a feed. A fantastic night's sleep, I will be going out to buy an all feather pillow today 8)

Poohbear, I'm glad you've turned up safe and well!! And DELIGHTED that you've got an S9. This seems to be an EXCELLENT machine! Hope that you'll see dramatic improvements now you have a different mask as well. All credit to you for taking care of your elderly aunt. There are many of us who know and appreciate what you've been doing. Now let's hope that you too get some TLC from your machine and mask .... and very pleased to hear from you.

Headthrob, delighted to hear that you've found what seems to be a very practical and comfy solution! May your pillow be the start of long and peaceful nights!!

Oh folks, it's SO GOOD to wake up to optimistic news!! Keep it coming!!

Last night was a short one. Just 6 hours and untold number of mask leaks still. We were very late home last night, had dinner at midnight as I was too hungry to go to sleep.

Not sure if the long day contributed to the lack of care when fitting the new mask. I got up around 4am and put the old one back on which wasn't any better.

Tonight's plan is to attenpt to be more relaxed, and not rush things. I am also going to try headthrob's advice to try a softer pillow. I can't use feathers because of allergies but have a super soft pillow I bought weeks ago but haven't tried yet.

angel Thank you :) :) I am very interested to hear how you get on with the gel. It may be what I need to sort out the nose/eye leaks.

I slept a lot better last night. Hubbie still had to wake me twice to tell me I weas leaking   I used the original style of mask. Tried but still couldn't get on with the new mask as it had even worse below the eye leakage.

The new soft pillow made sleeping on my side possible which was great. I spend most of the night on my back but do like to be able to have the choice. Since receiving the PAP machines I have had to have enforced back sleeping which wasn't the most comfortable.

The mask still leaked but this time around my eyes/nose but not nearly as bad as previously so I am making improvements at last. I don't seem to have any options on my machine to check AHIs but Hubbie's response has been good and he was the one who was aware of my sleeping habits :D.

To check your 'vital statistics' on the S9, turn your machine off ... so that the green light is showing on the left hand round button (I daren't say k***b here!). Now press 'info' (top right hand press button) and it will show the data from the period from 12 midday the day before. This shows leakage, AHIs and hours of use. And like Cinderella's coach and bits, it all disappears from view at midday that day, so check it when you wake up. All data is of course stored longer than a day! Just remember to press the 'info' button again to turn this function off ... because if it isn't the machine won't start again when you press the left hand button next time you use the machine!

As for the leakages, please do persevere with the new mask ... it could simply be a question of finding the right adjustment of the straps ... but do explain more fully if that doesn't solve your problem and the posters on here will try to help.

Hi,

A suggestion on your leakage.
My mask's forehead pad is adjustable.
On the non-padded end is a screw which can be turned, moving the pad in or out, bringing the top of the nose / mouth surround in or out. Playing with this a few times cured my nose / eye leakage.
You may need to adjust the top straps as well.
I have also found that having the straps fairly tight was best for me.

Hi everyone

I've been back to the clinic today and I've now got a mask with nasal pillows and an S9 machine. The consultant recommended this to try and ease the severe bloating I have been experiencing.

I was also having leakage problems with the full face mask as it started leaking air into my eyes and I was waking up with swollen eyes :-((

I'm still very positive and just hope this combination will work better for me.

Yes Scooterchick, I've got the same mask and there were no leaks and I must say that it seemed that less air was getting into my guts as I didn't look 9 months pregnant this morning lol!!

Also the S9 seems better and hopefully stopped me exploding and is alot quieter too. I've got to go back again next Thursday to have the info downloaded to make sure it's set up correctly.

(Good job my boss is understanding)

So far so good!! The only thing lacking last night was sleep but when I get used to it...fingers crossed... everything might fall into place :)

Ever the optomist!!

I have tried adjusting the mask as you suggested and it is much better. Last night I slept for 8 hours

Alsacienne my S9 must be a different model as when I hit the info button it tells my how many hours of use per night and nothing else :( Hubbie says that things are about 50 times better so maybe it doesn't matter that I don't know the apnoea rate.

CrissyB I hope you are still having better results with your new mask and machine.

Hi poobear

Glad to see you're getting on better with the mask.

re your s9 info problem.

I've just switched the power on on my s9 auto to check. I turn it off at the wall after use to save electricity, be it only minimal
I pressed the "i" for information button.
On the left are three symbols:-
Top one. Looks like someone in bed, a piece of paper behind containing three ticks, titled sleep quality.
Middle one. Again someone in bed with a piece of paper behind, titled sleep report.
bottom, a spanner titled service.
Turn the rotary to change selection.
On the middle on, you can change the reporting period be pressing the rotary switch, turn it to change selection the press rotaryagain.
Press "i" to return to normal screen

Hi Poohbear

Great news about the sleep!!

I have used the new mask and S9 for 3 nights now and I am not bloated at all. Not getting 100% sleep yet as still getting used to the mask but feeling much better!

I have checked the log and it said last night that I had an AHI of 2.9, used the machine for 7.5 hours and a smiley face for no leaks.

Feel like I'm getting some where now :-)
