I'm shocked that the consultant who was with my group didn't warn us about "excess wind". Roll on my next appointment , it will be like the infamous campfire scene in the film "Blazing Saddles" in the waiting room!

Thank you Alsacienne !!

Hi TiredTracey

I was warned about this by the consultant and I have been bloated up to bursting point. However what I have discovered is that since having an S9 machine and a nasal pillow mask is that I have no bloating!! I think in my case the bloating was being caused by too much air being forced into me and the S9 reacts to your breathing and does not put in constant air. I also think that breathing in through my mouth contributed too and caused painful 9 month pregnant belly on some mornings!!

Can you ask for an emergency appointment to get the problem sorted sooner?

Good luck :D

ChrissyB: I'm not in pain, but it would have been nice to be informed about this side effect! Just imagine the embarrassment if I let out a cheer and I'm dealing with a customer. Not to mention the looks from my co-workers..

NM37: Yeah, I do. I find it a great way of stopping arguments     .

I have been away trying lots of different masks. At the moment I have a Mirage quatro and a mirage Liberty to try. The Quattro was still leaking every time I turned onto my side. I have been trying to train myself to sleep on my side for years so I didn't wake hubbie with my snoring. Now I waker hime with the noises from the mask :D

The last few nights with the Liberty I have had less leakage but to be honest I feel worse than I did before I started treatment. The Mirage also seems to be suffocating me until the ramping ends and Tthe S9 kicks in at 12.2. I cant breathe in or out easily unless the machine is working at full blast. I am pretty sure it isn't normal to be unable to breathe naturally.

I can't read my data other than the hours I have slept as the machine doesn't have the inf available to me. It must be set for clinicians only.

My next appointment is in a year unless I want to try differnet masks. I was told my nose is too narrow at the bridge for the Quatro to work well.

Anf for NM37 and Tracey The wind is terrible. And I am not talking about ther weather. I had such terrible pain in my chest my son thought I was having a heart attack. But it was only a bad attack of wind caused by the CPAP.

Poohbear it sounds like you have the S9 escape model which is a set cpap machine it will not show data to you.Im wondering if your pressure might be on the high side and pumping too much air into you??? perhaps ask them about this at the next appointment . Also there is a feature called Expiratory pressure relief (EPR) which is on the machine is it turned on ??? should be no problems breathing out if this is working .
I have tried the liberty mask myself when i first started on therapy and did'nt think it was a very good mask.

I told Tracey the other day about peppermint water (chemists) very handy for trapped wind.

Don't worry about reading figures on the machine it really does'nt mean anything to you estimate cpap working by not feeling tired in the day if your buzzing along and not snoozing then you know for sure its doing you good.

Take Care Honey ,

Byeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee,

I've come to the conclusion that it's just random, some nights I wake up loads with leaks and others I sleep all the way through.

Last night my girlfriend woke me up and said 'Your machine is making a racket again, it's really loud!'. Bleary eyed, i woke up and heard the sound too and said 'You mean like that sound like that plane flying overhead??'

Hi Poohbear

I too am having the same problems as you. They gave me a machine for a week and it was much better and then said I couldn't keep it as it was just used to find out if my machine was on the correct pressure. By then I had 3 different sorts of masks and have been trying each of them with no luck. Leaks, bloating and extremely dry mouth and throat in various degrees.

I booked an emergency appt for today and I can now have the variable machine as I'm struggling so much and not getting decent sleep. Hopefully I'll get some sleep tonight!!

CrissyB,
You will be far better off with the auto machine ,
Do you have a humidifier ????
If you don't have one i would ask the clinic for one if they issue them ,it will sort out the dryness in your mouth and throat and it also aids compliance to therapy.

Take Care,
