Right, an update after another week. It definitely does do some good but I laid off it for a couple of days because it was feeling so much better and it came back. So does that mean its an everyday for the rest of my life thing? I can live with that.

However, I can now identify what the symptoms of a low level sinus infection are and recognise what is happening more clearly. One of the symptoms is a general feeling of being unwell or rundown that you can't really pin down why you feel that way. Overlap that with SA symptoms which can be very similar and it becomes confused.

However, as Patsy suggested the washing has no pressure to it and doesn't get far into the sinuses so I have some doubts but will carry on.

Final update 20/4/13 after about a month. It does help but thats about it. Still worth the effort but not a miracle cure for my problems.

Hi (again).

I only joined the forum today, so sorry if I repeat anything already said.

I read most of Page 1 of Jala Neti and then skipped to page 5. All talked about "teapots" or "kettles". Why?

After my first nasal op, I used nasal douches as prescribed by my specialist. The salt reputedly speeds up healing. More importantly, the osmotically-neutral liquid (so it doesn´t sting) washes the nasal cavities so allowing congealed blood and hardened mucous to be washed out more quickly than it would leave of its own accord. So one´s breathing improves more quickly. AFTER the operation effects wear off (generally up to 6 months), specialists recommend continuing the nasal douches. This is because, apart from easing breathing for some part of the day or night, there is evidence that colds heal more quickly in people that douche.

However, my main point is that nasal douching is very easily done with a syringe. There´s no need for fancy "kettles". Better, syringes force the water into the nose, so reaching deeply, not requiring inhaling (which many would be afraid to do). And syringes are free from friendly doctors!

I´m not criticising"kettles" - just pointing out that there is an alternative.

Hi,

I suffer from nasal polyps and I have been recommended to try the Jala Neti. I had two operations already but they keep growing back.

Can I do the Jala Neti at home or it is better to do and see a expert with the technique first?

Also, is it anyone who practise the technique in London?

Many thanks in advance
Alessia :)

I live in London but you can pick up the technique from youtube, I did, you don't need to see anyone.

Check out a nasal douche from a company called neilmed on the tinternet.
It's basically a saline mix and you squirt it up your nose with a plastic bottle and big nasal nozzle.

My wife suffered from a major Sinus swelling and pain, I nipped to the pharmacy and got one of these and overnight she was feeling a lot better.

Saw the doc and he prescribed the same thing, she uses it morning and night along with teeth cleaning and it keeps her Sinus's clear and pain free.
